I've got a weird symptom I've never seen discussed on the list:
During steady cruising down the highway at 75 mph in high gear (about
5000 rpm), it runs fine with my feet on the regular pegs; when I move
them to the highway pegs (mounted on the case guards), it starts
sputtering and coughing.
If I then spread my legs to move my knees out a few inches away from the
engine, it runs fine again. (I'm not making this up, honest!)
Only thing I can figure is that it's borderline too rich or too lean at
that throttle-speed combination, and the position of my legs changes the
airflow enough to push it over the line into much-too-rich or
much-too-lean territory.
It doesn't happen if I'm in a lower gear and lower speed at that RPM, or
if I take the tank cover off.
Any thoughts on what could be causing it, and whether it's likely to be
rich or lean? I'm not experienced enough to know the difference, just
know it's "not running good".
I have a TourMaster engine with a single K&N filter, airbox "Y" removed,
Hindle Super Sport exhaust.
