No, while droping the tubes through the clamps does have positive
results it will not address the current situation. the current problem is
that Troy has too much spacer in his forks.
the fast and easy way to fix this is to lift the bike enough
to get the forks fully extended, then take out your top caps. measure the
caps from top(even with fork tube) to bottom(where it touchs the spacer).
what ever is lacking to make 1" is the amount of spacer you need sticking up
out of the tubes. just measure and mark the side of the spacer then take it
out and cut it again.
the depth of the cap IS PART OF the preload. you may even find
that you need to have the spacer flush with the tube depending on your
forks.
