I had to rebuild the slave cylinder on my 1986 two summers ago.  I also had
the slow leak, never a puddle just level drop.  When I took it apart it was
evident that the cylinder had been leaking for quite some time.  I chose to
rebuild but previous threads on this subject suggested the cost of a
replacement was not exorbitant.  My cylinder had some gunk (technical term)
built up but I cleaned it with a Scotchbrite pad and used new seals, 6 or 7
dollars I think.
  Bleeding the clutch system can be a pain, see the tech listings regarding
MiteVac brake bleeder that helps out.  Be careful with the brake fluid, it
will ruin your paint, clearcoat, or good shoes in short order. Wipe and
rinse with water immediately, I have a divot in paint of my front fender due
to a drop of fluid I spilled while bleeding system.  I you haven't changed
your fluid you will probably find a lot of gunk in the master cylinder as
well.  Clean it out and flush thoroughly with new brake fluid.  Brake fluid
is hygroscopic, fancy word for absorbs water.  This is a good thing because
you don't want a slug of water in your brake, it boils and you lose brakes.
Over time moisture accumulates in the fluid and it's boiling point drops.
Also, brake fluid contains corrosion inhibitors that are used up never time.
Sorry to be so long winded but the subject is dear to me and the preventive
maintance is really important and pretty easy to do.

Just my 2 cents worth, I'm an original owner of an '85 max and I've had to
add fluid very rarely to my clutch (maybe once every year and 1/2 and small
amounts). I looked for leaks underneath the engine and saw none. I'm
guessing it's going in the crankcase. Haven't noticed any problems but would
appreciate any input on this subject. thanx, Schu   (long time reader 1st
