My brake saga is over. I have reinstalled the original calipers with
Galpher green pads and am again very happy. I finally got the R-1's figured
out though. The problem with the pads leaving the disk on lever release I
am figuring was just because the used pads were not totally broken in to my
disks since it stopped doing that. I was always looking for the same lever
pull that I had with the stock calipers. Once I found out the differences
between the calipers and through some list discussion I realize why when I
finally had good hard lever it still took more effort to stop. Part of the
problem is the stock pads, shifting to HH pads I am pretty certain will put
the braking ability of the R-1's up to factory standards but with a harder
lever pull. Like I said I bought them mainly for looks, I like the braking
ability I had and am not willing to spend more money on the set up. It
seems that Sam has found the combination that will work killer for the R-1
calipers.
So I am selling my 2000 R-1 calipers for $150 shipped in the US.
Thanks again for all the help, and to you Tony for the offer of local help.
