Your suggestions helped resolve the slowdown problem in my WebURL RE.
Rewriting the host domain tld using lookaheads was the solution regarding
Chrome's Javascript lock up.
Though understand the original RE worked on Safari 7 passing the same tests
as it did in any other new browser, PHP and other environments tested in
the above gist.
Anyway I still believe Chrome should not crash but throw an error instead.
