I'm not fully up to date w/ this; could all this be avoided by the "store raw + interpreted literals separately" thing which was your original solution in the template implementation CL? Or are there other factors in play here?

If this turns out too complicated, we might want to reconsider that solution. This problem was totally not on my radar when I initially commented against the "store raw + interpreted literals separately" solution.
