Which version of Chromium are you running? The latest canary should be
smart about scheduling garbage collection during idle times.
Could you provide a garbage collection trace using the flags --trace-gc
--trace-idle-notification --trace-idle-notification-verbose
Scavenges should not take long when the objects are short living. The best
way to change the young generation size is using the --min-semi-space-size=
flag
