Comment #48 on issue 235 by brettz9: Support the Javascript E4X extension
http://code.google.com/p/v8/issues/detail?id=235

Trolling in issue trackers? E4X is used all over the codebase of the chatting application, sameplace/xmpp4moz, among other places apparently, given the popularity of this bug, and no doubt would be used more so if it were actually available. It's like blaming Esperanto for the fact that it hasn't spread--if governments actually signed on to teach it, it would definitely be used.

If you have an ax to grind with XML, please don't take it out on those of us who like it very much and use it frequently. Also, Underscore.js, while a nice library for the likes of arrays, does NOT replace E4X in any way. The templating it documents, besides being more cumbersome in requiring strings, certainly does not have the powerful accessor/setter/filtering features of E4X nor the ability to evaluate JavaScript inline for more sophisticated design logic, etc. (see https://developer.mozilla.org/en/E4X_for_templating for some more of how this can be done). And even if you compared it to a more sophisticated templating library, it still doesn't negate the convenience (and power) of E4X.
