I'm certainly no fan of the hoop-jumping that browser manufacturers have performed to look better on synthetic benchmark tests and I would love for object property iteration order to be predictable and reliable in all browsers. I also agree the workarounds you mention are bad (although there are others). What I'm certainly not saying is that everyone should shut up and accept it. I've suggested before that engaging with the ECMAScript working group (see http://www.ecmascript.org/community.php) might be a better idea in the long run than pressuring a single browser manufacturer.
