Re #17: the real limit is the stack size, which is lower than 500 million.
Initializing just over 2 million locals already segfaults 32-bit Ubuntu.
A possible solution is to not emit 2+ million 'push eax' instructions, but
use a loop for anything over X for some X and include a stack guard in the
loop.
