A super beauty of hydraulic brakes is equal application of all brakes on the vehicle because of the balanced pressure. Lack of inherent balance was a real problem in Henry Ford's mechanical brakes in the 1933 and 1936 Fords my dad had when I was a kid. Its fortunate that perfect balance of trailer brakes is not absolutely necessary because there's not that inherent balance in electric brakes. Electric actuation of hydraulic trailer brakes would make for better balance, but make a bit more fragile trailer braking system because it would take more parts, but most would be familiar to the proprietor of the corner garage who doesn't understand electric brakes.
