Dear Bradley,
There is only one way out...
Cannibalism!
The deal here is that the screws used in computer hardware conform to a
standard called EIAJ, for Electronic Industry Association of Japan. These
metric bad boys are specified in TPI, diameter, length head size and even
have a special Phillips head screw profile for optimum torque...
That is the bad news. The good news is that all computers are exactly the
same in this hardware. Go find any old dead computer and strip the screws
you need right off the beast.
Kindest Regards,
Flint

Subject: Hard Drive Mounting Screws
I ordered some OEM internal hard drives and accounted for data and power
cables, but neglected to consider hard drive mounting screws (doh!). So, I
went searching for them both online and at local hardware stores. That
turned out to be quite the wild goose chase. First of all, can someone
confirm that the standard hard drive mounting screw size is 6-32 x .15"?
Second, does anyone know where I can get these screws locally or online
without paying more for shipping than for the product itself? I've tried
Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, Newegg, and StarTech.com (both Newegg and
StarTech.com have them but the shipping is ridiculous and/or it's bundled
with a bunch of other stuff I don't want). Alternatively, does anyone have
sixteen of these they'd like to sell? I'm surprised there isn't a local
computer shop that sells these sorts of accessories (or maybe there is and I
just don't know about it).
Thanks,
Bradley
