I just discovered that at least in Fedora 9, NetworkManager
automatically discovers the VZ USB adapter as an "Auto CDMA Network
Connection" and requires no further intervention in order to connect.
Previously, I setup pppd to use the VZ adapter, using the two files I've
attached. These go in /etc/ppp/peers, and you connect with 'pppd call
VZACCESS'. Pretty easy.
