I hear you loud and clear, Paul. I worked in state gummint here for four years but then the gig was eliminated six years ago. Been trying to get another IT gig since then, and have had interviews, but never hired. As I only have twelve years in IT with progressively responsible positions across a wide variety of hw and sw platforms, with a college degree, some grad school, and being a decorated combat veteran of two combat tours, this is perfectly understandable.
Next week I start delivering and dropping off vehicles for a vehicle rental company here in central Vermont and I am wanted for seasonal sales associate work at an electronics store. Not that I am bitter or anything, either...
