Flint--

The usb ports are working under Intrepid. And I just discovered I don't have
any serial ports! I guess they've gone the way of floppies.

You sync under Ibex with the serial port? Or with VBox? I haven't run Outlook
for years. I've very happily been using Palm Desktop and would like to keep
using it or an equivalent if I can, but my attempts with Evolution and gPilot
haven't worked, and I haven't been able to download kPilot successfully.

Sometimes I wonder why I go through all of this. I could just run MS stuff and
stop fussing with it all, but I think the answer is that I don't like MS and I
love puzzles. I want to solve this one.

With respect to Ubuntu--it's getting there. It's getting close to mainstream,
but as long as it takes this kind of fussing it's going to remain a geek's
thing. And maybe we should all wish it would. It's not worth the predators'
time right now, but once it is, along will come the viruses and trojan horses,
etc.

Are the USB ports running Ok under Ibex before you start VB? To see, use the
command "lsusb". Unplug everything run lsusb, note results. Plug something
usb in; lather, rinse, repeat....

I sync my Pilot on a serial port with no problem.
