Does an organization with the primary mission "To create collaborative
and knowledge sharing opportunities that promote and grow Vermont
software businesses" really advance that mission with a meeting about
protecting software patents? Especially given the affordability of an
upstart Vermont software company defending a patent extortion^Wlawsuit
from a Silicon Valley heavyweight?

Protecting Software with Patents

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

12:00pm - 2:00pm
vtSDA Event Space

Update After the Bilski Case

Traditionally, software has received legal protection through
copyright and trade secret laws. Over the past 20 years, it has become
common to protect software-implemented inventions using patents as
   well.

A Supreme Court decision in the Bilski case earlier this year called
into question whether certain methods previously considered to be
patentable will be eligible for patent protection in the future.

This presentation will provide an overview of patent protection for
software, explain the ramifications of the Bilski case for software
developers and detail what software developers can do if they want to
get patent protection for their innovations.

As always, our monthly Lunch & Learn will take place in the Champlain
Mill from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. Lunch will be $15 for members and $20 for
   non-members.
