The vtSDA is a business group, not a software group and no matter if you are for or against software patents, they're part of the current business environment. Since the Bilski case has changed the patent landscape, it's well worth discussing.

Cases like Bilski, the increased willingness of the Patent Office to reconsider patents and community prior art searches like I've seen on GrokLaw are all improving the ability of small Vt software companies to fight back against patent lawsuits. This information is worth spreading.

Since the speaker for the vtSDA luncheon is (I'm assuming) pro-patent, the discussion may be more along the lines of what kind of patents will be granted now and what's actually worth filing for. This is still worthwhile information for a business.

Does an organization with the primary mission "To create collaborative

upstart Vermont software company defending a patent extortion^Wlawsuit
from a Silicon Valley heavyweight?
