Follow up: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Glxgears_is_not_a_Benchmark A good hit and run explanation of GLXGears (if you're not already familiar with it). This test I think will give you a good idea of what you're looking to see with your 2D acceleration. I think a score in the 900 range will suffice for what you're looking to accomplish.
