Wait, isn't that what duct tape is for? :^P

Yeah, HP has been disappointing lately, along with Dell (their low end
servers are shit in my opinion - any manufacturer that will put a Broadcom
NIC in a server class machine has immediately lost my respect for good).

At this point (as of about 6 years ago) we only spec Intel servers - if
they're good enough to build IBM's servers, then it feels like a pretty
safe bet that it's solid. And our experience backs that up - we have
several in the field that have been running for well over a year (one in
particular is at 750days of uptime). They're well built, they don't have
stupid quirks that piss me off like missing hardware, and they run and run
and run. What's not to like? J

Hi all,

I just went through the most bizarre tech support experience I have
ever had. I am setting up a server for someone. The server is brand
new, arrived last week, Hp DL 160 G6. Non-hot plug drives were shipped
and they are listed on the HP website as being supported in this
server. When I unpack everything, I can't find hardware to securely
mount the drives in the drive bays. I can put them in to begin
software configuration but if the server were tilted forward, they
would fall out.
After a couple of email exchanges with my sales agent, I am advised to
call tech support. I spent over an hour on the phone with support only
to discover that HP does not ship the mounting hardware for non-hot
plug drives nor do they even have it even though these drives are
"supported" and sold by HP.
I am told that i have to contact a 3rd party vendor if i want the
mounting hardware to permanently the drives in the server.
How Bizarre!!!!!!!
I almost went with penguin computing. Next time.
