Hello,
I remember a warning from Brent in early January about Invisible or Masked
pieces in a setup
"CAUTION - Do not create any Invisible or Masked units as the ownership of
these
will still be linked to your password, even when you resign the position.
This
should not pose a problem, as any hiding/masking can be performed by each
player
after they take over their side."
Then how can I prepare a game setup for my module if that game needs
hidden/masked units ?
I put all the units in special setup mapboard and provide players with a
button to mask all units on that board before they actually move those units
onto the playing map?
Another idea would be to setup pieces using predefined passwords ('axis' for
the player supposed to play Axis, 'allies' for the player supposed to play
Allies) and giving those passwords in the help/documentation of the module
but then how would players change those password to their own and maintain
ownership of the masked pieces? It does not seem Vassal includes such a
feature allowing one to set the password to a new one with a game file open
so as to transfer ownership of pieces to this new password. Since the
gamefile is open, this means you have the correct password for this side,
thus you should be allowed to change it to something else.
Player A has password_a
Player A set password in pref to axis and load setup file where axis
password is already linked to Axis side.
Player A then change password back to password_a using this feature I wish
would exist one day and save the game and start playing his side.
I know it's just wishful thinking but who knows... From the mass of mail
about password I found in the Yahoo archives that could be of interest to
some of us :-)
