When you start the game, enter a name in Preferences. Choose which side to play. Finish your turn and save it. Then open the game again and enter a different name in Preferences. Load the saved game file. That will allow you to play the other side. Keep alternating the sequence. I believe that is how I used to do it. Dave B.
