Which host platform are you running on?

The 2D/3D support is enabled based on the 2D/3D support test done by a separate app, VBoxTestGL, so this could be either due to failing to launch the VBoxTestGL, or because the 2D/3D support test failure.
The latter is hard to diagnose currently since test results is not logged anywhere.
We've added a better logging capability for the Test 2D/3D support functionality, that should be available with the upcoming release, which should help detecting the exact reason of the 2D/3D support test failure.

Also note that 2D support is available for Windows (XP and later) guests only. So it will be disabled in case OS type in VM settings is other than Windows (XP or later).

did some tests, whether can enable 3D/2D, depending on where to put the binaries, very weird.

If the folder path contains a space, then can't enable 2D/3D. After remove the spaces in folder path, then works.

I am compiling from svn 24560, not sure if this is already fixed in newer versions

my case might be different, 3D can't be enabled with OSE, but OK with PUEL, so I was wondering whether OSE supports 3D acceleration.
