As soon as you will start the Virtual Machine you are going to create, you
will have to do the same operations you would do if you want to installa a
new system.
Normally the computers (and the Virtual Machine as well) will try to boot
from the CD/DVD: insert the Kubuntu distro in your CD/DVD unit.
Alternatively VB allows you to select an ISO image file that you
accidentally downloaded (that save you to burn a disk!).

The Virtual Machine can be created everywhere on your host system.

The machine you are going to create do not share anything with the host
system. The VM disk will be implemented on a (big) file. That disk will be
partitioned (not the host one!).
