Was it an EPROM programmer? Or just some USB peripheral?

The primary reason for my inquiry -- and all the hours of research 
into the subject of compatibility -- is so I don't buy it if I can't 
confirm function via one of the virtualization products (VirtualBox; 
VM; Parallels Desktop, et. al.). If I can't confirm with some degree 
of certainty that this will work, I guess I'll just continue to pay 
someone else to burn my devices.
