Hello!

My problem is very similar to this unanswered post:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.virtualbox.user/870

I've been trying three times to convert a HDD-image to vdi with
VBoxManage - the command quit without error message prematurely(After
having written 18GB resp. 85GB of the 250GB image).

I've created an image with dd from my laptop harddrive and eventually
tried to convert it to vdi. After it quit twice leaving me with 18GB
vdi-Images, i assumed there might be something wrong with the
raw-image, so i cloned the whole harddrive a second time and tried
again(Which of course takes a few hours). This time, the tool stopped
after having written 85GB. All the vdi-images did not boot - i got the
Windows XP boot manager, but after that, the screen stayed black with
only a steady cursor/underscore in the upper left corner.

Curiously, the whole process worked absolutely fine with a Windows 7
installation on my private laptop which i did last weekend for testing
purposes.

I think that maybe the raw images are corrupted and i run "badblocks"
on the external harddrives i'm using right now to make sure it's not
the hardware.

Can someone verify this assumption? On the other hand, i would assume
that VBoxManage would complain if it finds corrupted data and not just
quit as if everything went fine...

I appreciate pointers to where the source(s) of the problem could lie!

Best regards,
Christian
