Thanks to help from a poster at grc.techtalk.linux, I got into
XP's device manager. It thought COM1 and COM2 were busy (God knows with
what), but let me create a COM3. Both the Garmin and the DeLorme saw that
and used it.
So, for instance, I found a back road I wanted that was on DeLorme
but not Garmin, I made a route of it; uploaded to a GPS; downloaded to
Garmin; and gloated.
To the woods, to the woods!
