This describes are my (failed) attempts to install eCS 2.1 guest using
VirtualBox 4.1.0 and 4.1.2 under Mac OS X.6.5 host.

During these attempts the VM window froze up several times, not
responding to actions that used to work. E.g., clicking on 'Cancel'
or other icons did nothing, forcing me to do a Force Quit.

Also, when inside the VM window, with the mouse pointer captured by the
guest OS, clicking a button would cause a VB window to pop up informing
that the mouse was about to be captured by the guest. This happened
even tho I had not left the guest since the last several mouse clicks,
and had previously checked the box 'Do not show this message again'.

After setting up the guest options in the VB Manager, I started the VM,
which was pointed at the eCS .iso file. The installation Boot Option
menu came up. For the 'Hardware' option I initially selected options
other than 'Virtual Machine', since with that option no USB stick is
accessible from which to copy the lengthy registration key*. But none
of these choices worked: Each time the boot process would hang (Alt-F2
showed where the loading stopped) when loading the relevant graphics
driver - and I tried all four.

Giving up on this, I went back to specifying 'Virtual Machine' for
Hardware and 'Panorama' for video, resigned to having to enter the reg.
key by hand. After that the Boot Option menu informed me that the
(virtual) Disk 1 had no partition table and asked if it should fix the
problem. After a 'Yes', it said 'The changes have been applied' and a
re-boot would be necessary; pressing 'Close' would exit and re-boot.
The standard eCS Shutdown occurred, claiming I could now press CAD to
re-boot.

VB's shortcut Cmd-Delete for sending a CAD sequence didn't work, but
from the menu's File entry it did. I again got the installation Boot
Option menu, followed by the eCS splash screen, then by a screen asking
again to pick Easy or Advanced Installation, followed once again by the
registration key screen.

AHHHHRG - an endless loop!

So far, stymied at every turn.

Any suggestions for what to try next would be appreciated.

I have been runing eCS 1.2R successfully under several versions of
VBox, using an .hdd file from Parallels, under which it was installed.
But I have never successfully installed an eCS guest under VBox from
scratch.

* For those unfamiliar, the reg. name is 22 alphanumeric characters
long, all but 3 of them unguessable, and the reg. key is 176 alpha
characters long. Entering nearly 200 random characters correctly,
multiple times, is not my idea of fun.
