Hi, I tried using the following command-line to start my xp vm but while a window pops up, as far as I can tell nothing is happening in the vm.
C:\ vboxmanage startvm xpobi --type gui Running showvminfo on the vm once it is shutdown gives the following results: Name: xpobi Guest OS: Windows XP UUID: 8ff3b392-76c3-43c7-bf33-9c936557fd86 Config file: c:\vms\xpobi\xpobi.vbox Snapshot folder: c:\vms\xpobi\Snapshots Log folder: c:\vms\xpobi\Logs Hardware UUID: 8ff3b392-76c3-43c7-bf33-9c936557fd86 Memory size: 2000MB Page Fusion: off VRAM size: 8MB CPU exec cap: 100% HPET: off Chipset: piix3 Firmware: BIOS Number of CPUs: 1 Synthetic Cpu: off CPUID overrides: None Boot menu mode: message and menu Boot Device (1): Floppy Boot Device (2): DVD Boot Device (3): HardDisk Boot Device (4): Not Assigned ACPI: on IOAPIC: off PAE: on Time offset: 0 ms RTC: local time Hardw. virt.ext: on Hardw. virt.ext exclusive: off Nested Paging: on Large Pages: on VT-x VPID: on State: powered off (since 2011-10-21T00:15:27.000000000) Monitor count: 1 3D Acceleration: off 2D Video Acceleration: off Teleporter Enabled: off Teleporter Port: 0 Teleporter Address: Teleporter Password: Storage Controller Name (0): IDE Controller Storage Controller Type (0): PIIX4 Storage Controller Instance Number (0): 0 Storage Controller Max Port Count (0): 2 Storage Controller Port Count (0): 2 Storage Controller Bootable (0): on IDE Controller (0, 1): c:\vms\xpobi-vmware-files\legacy_xpobi_lite.vmdk (UUID: 9f97d8e5-8426-4f53-be4d-2c54911d9ada) NIC 1: disabled NIC 2: disabled NIC 3: disabled NIC 4: disabled NIC 5: disabled NIC 6: disabled NIC 7: disabled NIC 8: disabled Pointing Device: USB Mouse Keyboard Device: USB Keyboard UART 1: disabled UART 2: disabled Audio: enabled (Driver: DSOUND, Controller: AC97) Clipboard Mode: Bidirectional VRDE: disabled USB: enabled USB Device Filters: <none> Available remote USB devices: <none> Currently Attached USB Devices: <none> Shared folders: <none> VRDE Connection: not active Clients so far: 0 Guest: Configured memory balloon size: 0 MB OS type: WindowsXP Additions run level: 0 Guest Facilities: No active facilities. As another blind user, I've run natively on a windows host, and over vrdp on a gnu/linux host just fine. I do though prefer running a guest on a host where I'm physically present, since I've found that when running gnu/linux guests using the microsoft rdp client, it is a bit sluggish, especially when typing. If I'm for example using speakup with espeakup/espeak, on a gnu/linux guest over vrdp I can count to 3 between pressing a key, and getting speech feedback from speakup. I've followed the suggestions in the virtualbox manual on dealing with sluggish performance when using the microsoft rdp client, but that still doesn't help. > > Any tips on setting this up would be appreciated (like setting the rdp port > and do I have to set vrde?) All you need to know is in the chapter of the virtualbox manual dealing with vrdp. If you run into specific problems, I'm sure myself or others would be able to help resolve them.
