As far as I can tell from the log all looks normal, although I have to admin 
that I don't really know what I am looking for.  

It did say that the vm was changing from reset mode to running mode and that it 
was booting off of the harddisk.

I didn't see any errors reported.

I don't see anything unusual in your showvminfo output. Did you look
at the log file to see if you can spot a problem there?

You don't need to specify that you want to use the GUI. VBoxManage
startvm guest_name should be sufficient.
