Hello!

I'm having trouble migrating a VM from one host to another, probably
because of my own incompetence.

The old host is a CentOS 5 machine running VirtualBox 4.1.4, the new
host is CentOS 6 running 4.1.8. Both hosts are headless and running a
GUI on (or even connecting a monitor/keyboard to) them would be some
amount of trouble. The guest is also "headless" and all access to it is
normally only SSH.

The old host is considered on it's last legs, so the migration is
somewhat urgent. "No problem," I thought, "I'll just move the VM from
one to the other. That should be a snap!"

I installed (from the yum repo) and configured VirtualBox on the new
host completely over SSH on the commandline. That all went pretty
unremarkably, but I may have missed something. I exported the VM and
shut that instance down, imported on the new host then started it with
VBoxHeadless -startvm. And nothing...

On the host, top shows CPU usage consistent with a guest VM booting and
running. No errors are reported in the terminal where I run
VBoxHeadless. But I can't access the guest over the network. No ping, no
SSH, nothing. The guest should have a well-known static IP and be
configured for bridged networking; at least that's the way it was on the
old host. Network access is the only way I know to be sure that the VM
is actually running.

On the old host:

        [root@oldhost]# VBoxManage list bridgedifs
        Name: eth0
        GUID: 30687465-0000-4000-8000-bcaec5b2407e
        Dhcp: Disabled
        IPAddress: 192.168.0.35
        NetworkMask: 255.255.255.0
        IPV6Address: fe80:0000:0000:0000:beae:c5ff:feb2:407e
        IPV6NetworkMaskPrefixLength: 64
        HardwareAddress: bc:ae:c5:b2:40:7e
        MediumType: Ethernet
        Status: Up
        VBoxNetworkName: HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0

On the new host:

        [root@newhost elan]# VBoxManage list bridgedifs
        Name: eth0
        GUID: 30687465-0000-4000-8000-0019b9fddfac
        Dhcp: Disabled
        IPAddress: 192.168.0.91
        NetworkMask: 255.255.255.0
        IPV6Address: fe80:0000:0000:0000:0219:b9ff:fefd:dfac
        IPV6NetworkMaskPrefixLength: 64
        HardwareAddress: 00:19:b9:fd:df:ac
        MediumType: Ethernet
        Status: Up
        VBoxNetworkName: HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0

        Name: eth1
        GUID: 31687465-0000-4000-8000-001e58ab1508
        Dhcp: Disabled
        IPAddress: 192.168.57.1
        NetworkMask: 255.255.255.0
        IPV6Address:
        IPV6NetworkMaskPrefixLength: 0
        HardwareAddress: 00:1e:58:ab:15:08
        MediumType: Ethernet
        Status: Down
        VBoxNetworkName: HostInterfaceNetworking-eth1

The guest was configured to use static IP 192.168.0.45 bridged over
eth0. I tried completely disabling the firewall and SELinux on the new
host. No joy. I've jacked with it every way I can think. At this point,
I don't have any idea what to check or what else to try.

Any help or ideas appreciated. I'm sorry that I don't even know what
questions to ask.

-Alan
