XP 32 bit as host? Bad idea. I would by any means use a 64 Bit system as host (and preferably a linux for sake of stability) and plenty of RAM. I have a quadcore machine w/ 8GB RAM, host is debian. On that I run various VMs. All Windows versions (XP, Vista, W7); Mint 13LTS (Maya) Mate runs fine, while Opensuse 11.4 Evergreen is a ressource hog.
