There is a linux routine on the Internet for extracting the firmware licence from your old machine, assuming your old machine is still usable. It is done by running up a Linux distro of your choosing from CD/DVD/memory stick (you do not install it on your hardware) and then running the routine. Please bear in mind that what you get is the OEM licence, which is hardware specific. So if you apply it to your VM the new
hardware is registered to that licence, meaning that the licence on your old hardware will become invalid. Whereas a retail licence is associated with your software and as such is transported with it, although there are some steps needed to re-affirm it when you change the underlying hardware.
It does work but I'd be the first to admit it's very clunky. If you're not familiar with the manipulation of Linux OS, it could be far cheaper, in the long run, to locate a new licence.

within X amount of days or else. Well the CD from Dell has no codes to register it
with. According to Dell, the codes are placed in the firmware of the computer and is
not available to them. I guess that means the dell computer registered itself.
Anyone had this problem and how do you get around it.
