hi gang,
new to virtualBox (1.3.4) i try to setup either dynamic or static tap devices
for a bridged traffic to my debian etch host (kaladur).

starting with static tap, everything looks fine from the sysadmin side:

Feb 15 12:47:57 kaladur kernel: device tap1 entered promiscuous mode
Feb 15 12:47:57 kaladur kernel: br0: port 2(tap1) entering learning state
Feb 15 12:48:06 kaladur kernel: br0: topology change detected, propagating
Feb 15 12:48:06 kaladur kernel: br0: port 2(tap1) entering forwarding state

$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled
interfaces
br0 8000.00112fb89442 no eth0

        tap1

so tap1 & eth0 belong to the bridge, eth0 works fine for my ws.
for the debian sarge guest (or other linuxes):
1.) it seems that no arp reply gets through, ergo no communication can happen.
2.) using DHCP instead of static IP in the guest, doesn't work either:
Feb 15 12:54:54 cosinus udhcpd[171]: received DISCOVER from 08:00:27:81:03:88
Feb 15 12:54:55 cosinus udhcpd[171]: No valid arp replies for this address
(192.168.1.200)
Feb 15 12:54:55 cosinus udhcpd[171]: broadcasting OFFER of 192.168.1.200 to
08:00:27:81:03:88

when i wireshark (trace) the br0, i see arp requests & answers as well as the
DHCP discover & offers.
seems that neither the direct adressed arp packages nor the BC-dhcp-offers get
through. NAT is working, but unfortunately no option for running a server as
guest.

any hints?

cheers & TIA
guenter
