Correct.  That's what I removed, the development packages, not the kernel
itself.

I would suggest rolling back to the Mandriva stock kernel and the new 2008
build just posted on the website a shot.

Newer kernels often have problems with third-party modules, and we've
established that the stock Mandrake kernel in 2008 is quite capable of
running Virtualbox OSE and proprietary versions.
