Hi,

Fixed my problem with a bios update to 1.04.

Hi,

Update. I've tried VirtualBox for Debian 1.6.2AMD64, 1.6.4AMD64, and
1.6.4 32bit on Debian etch AMD64 and the 32 bit version. All with the
same problem mentioned before. This morning I also tried VB 1.6.4 32bit
on a Pentium III machine with Debian etch. Works just fine. Made it all
the way thru the guest winxp sp2 installation no problems.

Specs for the AMD machine are
Tyan S3992-E Thunder H2000M
Two Opteron 2352 Quad core
32G Registered ECC SDRAM-Kingston
Seagate sata 250G Hard drive

Debian and VirtualBox install with no problems or error messages. One
thing that is different is the need to disable nmi_watchdog in the
kernel on the AMD machine.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Mike

Hi,

I've done that already. With the same result. I've been trying many
different options. Using sata was one, but like you said you have to
install via ide first then install the sata driver in the guest. Sorry I
should've changed the showvminfo. I found a ticket(1901) on
virtualbox.org about windows host and 1.6.4. So I think I'll try the
32bit 1.6.2 I orginally tested with in the morning. Does anyone have a
debian etch 1.6.2 amd64 deb version of virtualbox. I didn't see anyway
to download previous versions on virtualbox.org

Thanks for the help,
Mike

I stand to be corrected, but I seem to recall that the xpsp2 install
media doesn't support sata out of the box, unless you load the drivers
for it right when the installer starts. It looks like you've got sata
enabled, and the ide controller disabled. I'd therefore suggest
reversing that (I.E. disable sata, and enable ide), and trying the
install process again.

Windows XP to install as a guest. The installation starts and copies the
initial windows files and then reboots, I get the windows xp startup
graphic and then the BSOD. BSOD doesn't mention anything specific. Just
the stop message Stop: 0x0000008E
(0xc0000005,0x8050E0F8,0xF7605658,0x00000000). Happens every time. I
tried changing various settings with no avail.

PIIX3 references no PIIX4. I tried to change this but the idecontroller
setting mentioned in the user manual looks to be dropped in 1.6.
