Frank,

I cannot find this posting on virtualbox.org. I guess I'm just stupid.

I am running Vbox 1.6.2 on Windows XP SP2. I had trouble installing
Solaris so I installed Fedora with all the latest updates. I cannot
install Guest Additions. Every executable program returns an error
message: "Couldn't display "/media/VBOXADDITIONS_1.6.2_31466/VBox
GuestAdditions.exe"." (with the appropriate .exe file name.) Obviously, I
need this application to avail myself of the larger window size.

I don't know if the following has any bearing on the above, or for that
matter, if it makes any difference if I am using the x86 version. I
downloaded VirtualBox-11.6.2-Win_amd64.msi which would not install
although my machine is an AMD 64. Therefore I downloaded: VirtualBox-1.6.2-Win_x86.msi and had no trouble installing it. I then
proceeded with the installation of Fedora, which runs fine, as far
as I can tell with the limited opportunity to check it out.
You are obviously running a 32-bit Windows version on your AMD64
machine which is fine. For 32-bit Windows you have to install the
x86-version of VirtualBox.

To install the guest additions for your Linux/Fedora guest you
have to execute

  sh /media/VBOXADDITIONS_1.6.2_31466/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

as root. The .exe application contains the guest additions for
Windows guests. Please have a look at the user manual section
4 and section 4.3 for further details.

After many tries, this is the procedure I ended up pursuing. I still
have been unable to get the VBoxLinuxAdditions.run to execute -- but I will
not stop trying.

I still would like to get a compatible version of Solaris to download. That's what I was trying to accomplish in the first place.

Can you explain a little bit more in detail what does not work? What
happens if you try to execute

  sh /media/VBOXADDITIONS_1.6.2_31466/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

as root from your Linux guest? Note that the installation procedure for
Solaris guests is a little bit different.
Response is "no such file or directory"
I ran: ls -al and get no return except .hal-mtab

You probably got that message because the CD containing the installer is not mounted. If you open the file manager (dolphin in Fedora 9 with KDE) it gets mounted automatically. If that does not work you can mount the CD manually with the following commands:
# mkdir /media/VBOXADDITIONS_1.6.2_31466/
# mount /dev/sr0 /media/VBOXADDITIONS_1.6.2_31466/
Then you can execute the previous command and it should work:
# sh /media/VBOXADDITIONS_1.6.2_31466/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
Hope it helps.

First problem seems to be that I have Fedora 7, not 9
When I tried to mount /dev/sr0 I got a message, "no such mount point..."
I assume that I am unable to access the file manager 'dolphin'.
Is it possible to find the VBOXADDITIONS_1.6.2_31466 file on the insatallation CD.
I haven't had any luck with that so far.
