I am using AVG on several boxes and have no problems at all, so I suspect that's not the problem. However, there might be some settings to be adjusted

There is something with AVG Antivirus 7.5 (specifically avgcc.exe) that completely frazzles the ability of a virtualized WinXP to communicate via SMB with samba shares on mapped drives. The symptoms are extremely slow copies (or other data transfers like file saves) from XP to any mapped drive on the network. Either killing avgcc.exe with the task manager or uninstalling AVG (which of course does the same thing permanently) immediately cured the problem. This AVG conflict is something that has popped up since 2.0. I don't know why, but after installing the bug patch to the windows .dll in the above ticked in 2.0.2, I didn't have the transfer problem to the same extent I did with 2.0.6. I used the permanent work-around -- No more AVG. This shouldn't be considered a fix and somebody should take a look at what is happening with AVG installed and at least understand where the network problem is. Whether it is AVG or virtual box? However, I would be useless in that regard. Just a heads up. -- David C.
