Actually, I stand corrected. It does seem to be valid syntax for xp to
accept a drive letter when switching folders, which wasn't the case in
older versions of windows, or in DOS as far as I can recall.

Paul, yes, to answer your question, windows does put the current
working directory, (or folder in windows terminology), into the exe
search path. In fact, the CWD gets searched before anything in the
path variable. This was standard behavior since the days of good old
DOS, and no, it can't be changed as far as I know, though I do stand
to be corrected again.

Now, for instructions on how to modify your exe path in xp. I
considered not posting this to the whole list, but decided I might as
well, so it's in the archives for anybody else not familiar with the
windows command line who wants to use vboxmanage without switching
folders every time. Note that I don't use the mouse, so I can only
tell you where to go, and hopefully you'll know whether you should
left-click once, or twice, and how to do what I describe by using the
mouse.

1. Bring up the startmenu.

2. Bring up the control panel.

3. In the control panel, get into the "System" page. I use the
classic control panel view, but hopefully System still exists in
the default view, I can't recall if it does or doesn't.

4. In the System page, find the Advanced tab, and activate the
   "Environment Variables" button.

5. In the "System variables" list, select "Path", and activate the
   "Edit" button.

6. At the end of the existing text in the edit box that comes up, add
the following exactly as shown, including the semicolon:
;C:\Program Files\Sun\xVM VirtualBox

7. Activate the "OK" button 3 times, once to close the edit box, a
second time to close "Environment Variables", and a third time to
   close the "System" page.

8. Close the control panel, and you should now be able to run
vboxmanage from wherever you are. Hth.

Greg
