You didn't say what O/S you're running. So if what I did isn't relevant to you it might point you in the right direction. Installing the pae kernel on a 32bit machine is straightforward. My mythbuntu media server is on a 32bit box. This is where I went for guidance:

Though I could probably have done it through synaptic package manager by doing a search on "pae" and upgrading my kernel that way.
