Sure.
Velocity has the Avalon Logger in there as the simple default logger,
but it will support anything you can wrap with the simple logger
interface. Jon even threw in a Log4j wrapper (as you saw...)
There was interest earlier in upgrading - I don't see much of a point,
as Avalon does a decent job it seems of the simple file logging that we
need out of the box.
If we do change, the only thing I would personally want to see is
smallness and inclusivity - i.e. you don't have to hunt down another jar
to get basic logging to work with Velocity - it would be included as the
avalon logger is now. (The Velocity jar is all you need...). I talked
this over a bit with Ceki, and it seems possible to cut down log4j into
a usable but small file logger that we could include now like we do with
the avalon logger.
But as this is currently totally transparent to users, and we aren't
having any problems... :)
