He does have a couple of good points, though, which I feel to be lacking in
the current version of Velocity and should be addressed.

For example we had to write our own pull-tool in Turbine to present dates
according to a specific format.

I'm sure there's more of these wee additions that could polish Velocity up a
bit.

Jonathan comes over every now and then to let us know about the great
new features in FreeMarker.  Then, once the message is delivered,
usually in a concise and pleasant manner, he'll stop out of respect for
not wanting to clog the list with too many off-topic comments or start
any heated discussions.
