Hi, I've been tinkering with a site redesign for months - I finally got a little more oomph and finished a first cut. It's at http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/
This is both a content and site redesign. The primary goal was to make the web site more accessible to novice users, to remove outdated content, and to clean it up a little. Specifically, I redid the home page, reorganized the TOC, moved all community content to the Wiki, and added a couple of new articles. Product documentation is now 1.4 only. The site format looks the same but has a new logo and is CSS based. Consequently it now prints cleanly with no menu bar. (Thanks, Tim for the logo and the CSS push!) At this point, I could use a little help. First of all - anyone want to volunteer to copyedit (nitpick, please) the new content? That's * Home page * Overview * Getting Started * Web Applications and in the Wiki (just go and and edit) * DocumentationGuidelines Obviously for some of these I cribbed from the Wiki and various earlier web files - thanks to all original authors. Second, I'd appreciate any general comments and fixes. I'm a bit of a CSS positioning novice - suggestions on layout are welcome. One worry I have is links to the user's guide. I've moved it to the "docs14" folder (to allow for multiple versions). I'm going to set up a redirect for all original links to send them to the new file. Hopefully this will work. If the site gets a general thumbs up I'll check it in to source control and then (after a comment period) update the web site.
