Thanks to everyone,  I have already scheduled her for an X-ray and told her not to use the PICC until we know more.  I will arrange for contrast and flouro if the x-ray is normal and I will let you know hopefully tomorrow.   RaKay

Subject: [vascular] PICC Complications

HELP!!  I have a patient with a PICC that has been receiving TPN for about 6 weeks but is experiencing some weird things.

Complaint # 1--  States she hears and feels a definite popping sound in her chest when she flushes the line with NS.

Complaint#2--  States she feels like her throat gets swollen (like she has a cold) for about 2 hours after flushing the PICC.

Any immediate help would be greatly appreciated.
