I would never do this, and have never heard of such a strange
request. He is ignoring all principles of infection control and skin
antisepsis. Also, I have always practiced in hospitals that did not
allow the physicians to change hospital policy based on their
preferences. I would tell him to take a hike and continue to practice
according to hospital policy and procedure. If he or she wishes to
take this change through the proper hospital committees and risk
management with the required supporting evidence, tell him or her to
go for it. I would be that this person will back down from this
ridiculous request. Lynn

Need help quick!! Have an attending who is new to our facility who states that when he inserts a new PAC, he places a sterile TSM over site and doesn't want anyone touching his new port. Is requiring accessing THRU the TSM. Has anyone out there heard of this practice??? Have a meeting shortly, so would appreciate answers ASAP.
