Hi Jonathan,
In January, I was at an AVA conference focus group. Of the ~ 16 nurses representing hospitals across the US & Canada, I believe our hospital was the only one not using this device. I have been trying to see if it's available in Canada; however, multiple requests to Johnson & Johnson have gone unanswered. I think it would be worth your while to take a close look at the product.
At the conference, Dr. Jarvis, an  acknowledged world leader in nosocomial infection control, listed the Biopatch as 1 of the 6 "evidence-based measures that reduce the risk of CVC-Associated BSI, [in conjunction with] hand hygiene before patient/catheter contact, maximal barrier precautions during CVC inserion, chlorhexidine skin antisepsis, appropriate catheter site placement & dressing (semi-permeable preferred)." He also recommended use of CVAD insertion kits, CVAD inserter education/training, daily reminders to remove catheter, if no longer required and IV teams as measure to reduce CRBSIs.(19th AVA conference syllabus)
