I just knew someone was going to ask that!
I don't know to be honest.  A quick pubmed search (which I am very new to doing) found one dermatology article:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=12835542&itool=iconabstr&query_hl=3&itool=pubmed_docsum

I called Tristate and they sent me a bunch of literature ....but it says all their testing was done "in vitro".     If anyone is interested in this you can email me privately and I will forward it to you.....there are 4 emails that Tristate sent to me.
There are a number of articles out there on the silver impregnated catheters showing a decrease in CRBSI....but is it really due to just the silver in the catheter or other factors?   I read the abstract on the dermatology article....it sounded promising to me.

Is there any research to support the silver patch?

Just FYI....there is a silver impregnated patch that works the same way....but no bug has been shown to develop resistance to silver so far.  I think Tri-state makes it.  Here is a link: http://www.tshsc.com/images/literature_pdfs/SilverSite_Literature.pdf
