In our facility, we occasionlly have to do this for a pt who are no longer receiving dialysis (in the acute care setting) prior to the doctor writing the order to dc the catheter.   Our dialysis department has us flush with the same concentration (5000u/cc -- then the amt written on catheter for fill volume) only one time a week.

On another aspect of this same thread....in the home when the  catheters
remain, but no longer used for dialysis or apherisis, what  flush
protocol do you use?  Same units/ml as when it was being  used?
Frequency?

Thanks....

We changed our a few years  back to Heparin 1000 units/ml filling volume
of the lumen.
