Traditional practice followed P&P for blood & blood products, generally
stipulating the use of an 18 or 20 gauge. But this is not current
thinking and our policy makes no recommendations. We routinely infuse
via a 22 or 24 - and we use a lot of 22 gauge Hubers as well. Some of
the newer subQ sets are even 27. The final decision re size is based on
patient variables and not the solution.

We are reviewing our IVIG policy it lists the size/gauge catheter that
is acceptable for use. Does anyone else specify this in their policy or
know of any guidelines that limit the size catheter?

Thanks in advance
