INS says it takes 60 minutes to do an easy PICC and 180 for a difficult one with a mean of two hours One nurse if doing just insertions can do 4 PICC lines a day on average You have 120 - 150 PICC lines a month which is 1,800 a year. If you look at vacations and holidays one nurse can do 800 PICC lines a year so you need a minimum of 2.5 FTE's but that means you have no time to do declotting, troubleshooting, dressing changes. You are maxed out and it is wise to look at the addition of another FTE.

Currently our adult side, 2.5 FTE, places about 120 - 150 picc/month. 350 - 400 beds. teaching hospital. the question is, for teaching hospitals or facilities about the same size and with about the same # of picc per month, how many FTEs do you have? for the picc RNs, what other service do you provide beside bedside picc placements, data entry/management? currently the adult picc team is not able to keep track of the picc cath days. (the computer charting system is not helpful at all to run reports of that sort even though all the data is in there). please provide your facility's info. thank you in advance. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
