I did the ED thing for several years, and I hated the twin caths.  You are exactly right in your assumptions of more complications.  I always heard the nurses and docs brag when they got one in, but they were the same nurses and docs that would then start incompatible meds through them not knowing they couldn't.

Because you can't give incompatibles through a twin cath.

I don't understand the benefit of a twin cath versus a piggyback at a
Y-site.  Larger catheter, more risk of complications.  I've never used
them or been where they were used with any consistency.  It seemed to
be an ED thing.

Can someone explain the benefit to me and tell you how they have worked for you?
